Through multiple global rebrands, internal and external products require both a strict adherence to brand style, and a 'think on your feet' approach to accommodate content that doesn't quite fit to template.

The following is a message directly from the internal stakeholder. Note the full brief originally covered two pages of detailed instructions and deadlines for checking.

To celebrate diversity and explore its role and importance in education, we have asked individuals and organisations to contribute short perspectives on eight selected topics in this area - with a view to turning this content into an engaging infographic and series of poster resources / blogs to promote over the autumn term.

02 brand style

The design process started by referring to the brand visual style guide, to understand requirements for creating new icon / pictogram assets and establishing a size and grid to compose the design for digital.

03 development

As Brand Champion, I advised my stakeholder that the inclusion of illustrations deviated from the established house style.  However, they decided to test the illustrated style for this particular document. This illustration was carefully integrated into the layout, adopting a house style aesthetic through the utilization of brand colours and a 2D cut-out design.

While the initial designs received approval from the client for development, it became necessary to submit all marketing materials for review by the internal brand team. As anticipated, further refinement was required, particularly in response to the inclusion of the illustration.

Throughout the development stage, the client presented several requests for modifications to the original brief, spanning from new content to significant alterations in dimension and orientation.

 

Meeting a pressing deadline imposed a need for close stakeholder collaboration and swift production while maintaining a consistent visual identity. In the absence of illustrations, I opted to incorporate a photographs, preserving the amiable aspect initially conveyed by the illustrations.

04 final design

The client expressed approval for the inclusion of photographs.  At the last minute, it was decided to change the format from digital to print, requiring significant modifications to ensure printability.  These alterations impacted legibility, prompting a decision to expand the content to two pages. This created an opportunity to incorporate more engaging elements into the document.
